Can you make brownies in an air fryer?
Yes, brownies can definitely be made in the air fryer. You might be surprised but you can actually bake in the air fryer.
It is the perfect solution when you don’t want to heat up the oven or spend a lot of time baking. The air fryer greatly reduces the cooking time and it turns out great.
We love to use the air fryer for small batch baking.
Ingredients:
- Salted Butter
- Sugar
- Brown Sugar
- Cocoa Powder
- Vanilla Extract
- Large Egg
- All Purpose Flour
- Chocolate Chips
How to make brownies in an air fryer:
- Step 1. Preheat the air fryer and prepare the pan. Preheat the air fryer to 325 degrees F and line a 6 inch square or round cake pan with parchment paper. Make sure to let the parchment paper extend up the sides of the pan.
- Step 2. Melt the butter and sugar. Place the butter, brown sugar, sugar and cocoa powder in a microwave safe bowl. Microwave in 20 second intervals, stirring after each interval, until the butter is melted and ingredients are combined.
- Step 3. Add the vanilla. Stir in the vanilla extract and let the mixture cool slightly.
- Step 4. Combine the egg. Then mix in the egg and flour until combined.
- Step 5. Stir in half of the chocolate chips. Pour the batter into the prepared baking pan and top with the remaining chocolate chips.
- Step 6. Air fry at 325 degrees F for 15 minutes. Check the brownies. If the brownies are not done, cook in 5 minute intervals until the brownies are cooked through.
The edges should be set and a toothpick inserted into the center of the brownies comes out clean. Make sure not to insert into a chocolate chip.
- Step 7. Allow to cool. Let the brownies cool in the pan for 10-15 minutes. Then use the parchment paper to remove the brownies from the pan. Cut and serve these yummy brownies.

Can you make boxed brownie mix in the air fryer?
Yes, you can make air fryer boxed brownies.
- Combine the brownies according to the box instructions.
- Spread into an air fryer safe pan.
- Bake for 15 minutes. Just like above, the cooking time may need to be adjusted if they aren’t done.
How to store:
Leftover brownies can be stored in an airtight container or bag at room temperature for up to 5 days.
Serving Ideas:
- Ice Cream. Top each brownie with ice cream. You can make a brownie sundae and add chocolate syrup and whipped cream.
- Powdered Sugar. Sprinkle powdered sugar on top before serving.
- Whipped Cream. Add a dollop of whipped topping.
Recipe Tips:
- Cooking time may vary. Each air fryer cooks differently so the bake times will vary. Make sure to check regularly until the brownies are cooked through.
- Room temperature eggs. This will make the texture of the brownies lighter.
- Line the pan. We used parchment paper and it makes it so easy to remove from the pan. You can easily lift the entire sheet out and cut into squares.
- Don’t overbake. Brownies continue to cook in the pan once removed from the air fryer.
Substitutions and Additions
- Nuts. Mix in a handful of your favorite nuts. Chopped walnuts or pecans taste great.
- Peanut Butter Chips. Substitute the chocolate chips for peanut butter morsels. The combination of peanut butter and chocolate will be a hit.
- White Chocolate Chips. Instead of the chocolate chips, you can use white chocolate chips in the brownie mixture.
- Sea Salt. Sprinkle a little bit of sea salt on top of the brownies.
- More chocolate. Drizzle chocolate on top for even more chocolate flavor.
- Candy. Add crushed candy bars such as snickers, heath bars or anything you like. M&M candy also tastes delicious.
