Easy Chicken Parmesan Bake Recipe (1)

I looooooooove chicken parmesan! I haaaaaaaate cleaning up after a dinner that took a bunch of bowls, pots, pans and other things to make. So I decided today was the day for one of my favorite dinners to get a makeover. The classic chicken parmesan recipe was about to turn into a 5 ingredient, one dish wonder. It is so easy, so delicious and even a little healthier than the original. Maybe a dinner trifecta?

I actually thought long and hard about how to best make this recipe. I love that crispy bread crumb crust on chicken parm. I love the rich tomato sauce and I really love the perfectly melted cheese topping it. But I wanted it in one dish with very little clean up. Since it would be baked, coating the chicken in the bread crumbs wasn’t going to be an option. Maybe if I did it in steps and added the sauce and cheese throughout the cooking process, but I have three crazy kids running around. That is just NOT going to happen!

So I did a little experimenting and BOOM. An amazing dinner was born. Seriously, I don’t know if I will ever go back to the original because not only is it a time saver, not only do I have so little to clean, not only is it healthier, but it seriously rocked my socks off on taste. SO amazingly good.

To make this you only need a few things. Grab some chicken breasts and layer them on the bottom of your baking dish in a single layer. Pour your favorite marinara sauce over it, I used Ragu. You can use more or less than I suggest depending on your tastes, but 1 cup is a good starting point for 3 chicken breasts. We sometimes add more over our pasta if some family members like a little more sauce than others.

Next layer on your cheese. Provolone is so good with the rich and tangy flavor of the tomato sauce. I also love that it comes in slices so it takes about 2 seconds to put it on top.

Last, mix 1/2 cup of bread crumbs and 1/2 cup of grated parmesan cheese together and spread it evenly over the top. This gives you the delicious crispy taste that is signature in the dish. If you give a quick spray of cooking spray over the top of the bread crumbs it helps them get even crispier.

Bake at 375˚F for 35-45 minutes or until your chicken is done all the way through and the juices run clear. I make a lot of chicken bakes and find from reader feedback that ovens at different altitudes and climates can make the cooking time vary a bit along with the size and thickness of your chicken breast. So check it at around 35 and continue to cook if needed.

You can loosely cover it if it starts getting more browned than you want. Every oven cooks differently so even though I don’t cover mine, you may prefer to cover yours.
