We love all the holidays around here, and really enjoy going all out with decorations and themed treats.

Halloween is one of our favorites!

It’s so easy to throw together fun finger foods with a spooky theme- like these mummy on a stick pops, witch hat Halloween cheese ball, or even these for example.

All use familiar ingredients, and are always a hit with the kids. Bonus points because they’re actually also equally delicious!

These JELLO marshmallow pinwheels are much the same.

They get a fun two tone effect from ingredients settling and separating as they cool, chill, and set.

My boys said they looked gross and dubbed them monster tongues, but they taste great and they’re always a hit as part of any spooky spread.

Exactly the affect I was going for!

A perfect Halloween treat, I’ve also made them as a crafty snack to accompany one of our boys favorite children’s stories- ‘I Need My Monster’. Which is also a great read when you’re gearing up for Halloween.

With a fun blend of flair & scare these marshmallow pinwheel monster tongues are always a hit whether it’s snack time or party time.

Ingredients Needed

As with all of my most favorite recipes, these JELLO marshmallow pinwheels require minimal effort and only a handful of ingredients to whip up this fun, tasty treat.

JELLO Roll Ups (Viral TikTok Recipe) (4)

You’ll need:

  • JELLO – A 3 ounce package of Jello gelatin, NOT pudding, so be sure to read the box carefully. You can use any flavor you like.
  • WATER – You’ll need warm water, can be on the hotter side but it has to at least be warm. Cold water won’t for this recipe.
  • MARSHMALLOWS – The miniature kind

That’s it- just three ingredients (and that’s if we’re counting the water) are all that you need to whip up a batch of marshmallow pinwheels.

How To Make

These may look gross, especially when you consider they’re called ‘tongues’, but they taste great and are super easy to whip up.

Start by adding the flavored gelatin powder to a medium sized, microwaveable bowl. Pour in the warm water and give them a stir.

Microwave the mixture for 1 1/2 – 2 minutes. Carefully remove the hot bowl from the microwave.

Whisk again, stirring until the gelatin completely dissolves into the water.

Pour in the marshmallows, and microwave the mixture again for 1 – 1 1/2 minutes.

Carefully remove the hot bowl from the microwave and whisk again, until the marshmallows have completely melted and mixed into the gelatin mixture evenly. Set aside.

Spray an 8×8 inch baking dish lightly with nonstick cooking spray, then carefully pour the hot marshmallow mixture into the dish.

Transfer the dish to the refrigerator, and let it chill for 45 minutes or until the mixture’s completely set.

You’ll know it’s set when it’s still somewhat jiggly, but there’s obviously no liquid left.

Remove the dish from the refrigerator, and run a butter knife around the inside edges to release the jello from the dish.

Transfer the jello loaf to a non stick surface, such as a wax paper covered cutting board or a nonstick baking mat.

Beginning at one end, roll the jello up tightly like a jelly roll. With the roll seam side down, use a sharp knife and carefully cut it into 1/2 inch slices.

Serve immediately, or cover and refrigerate until ready to enjoy.

Storing

If you aren’t eating them right away, these need to stay refrigerated.

Leftovers or extras can be stored in an air tight container in the refrigerator for up to 5 days.

TIPS & TRICKS

  • Doesn’t have to be JELLO brand gelatin. Can use any other brand including the store brand; however, make sure it is flavored gelatin and not pudding mix before using.
  • Use different flavors for different colored tongues- we will make several batches so there’s different tongues to choose from on the dessert table. Kids love the variety.
  • You can serve these as is once cut, or add a coupleedible candy eyeballs to give them even more of a monster look.
