My Love For Air Fryer Steak

If you have been here a while, then I am sure you have come across many of our air fryer steak recipes and my love affair with steak in the air fryer.

When we lived in Portugal, they had a thin cut steak that was delicious, so we started cooking steak and chips together in the air fryer.

This then expanded into air fryer sirloin steak, air fryer rump steak, air fryer ribeye steak and our full guide of how to cook steak in the air fryer.

But one steak I just haven’t got around to sharing with you is air fryer t bone steak and today is the day you have been waiting for!

Air Fry T Bone Steak

I asked the butchers for a couple of large t bone steaks that I could cook in the air fryer.

It was among a bulk order of meats that I had purchased ready for recipes over the coming months. I opened the t bone steaks and OMG they were HUGE I think they could feed two people just from one of them and seemed to take me and Dominic forever to finish them.

So, let’s call this a thick t bone steak in the air fryer!

The air fryer tbone is going to be dumped in the air fryer and is going to cook much faster than pan fried, it will also remind you of the best tbone steak you have enjoyed on the barbecue, just in the fuss free air fryer way.

What Is A Tbone Steak?

Because its cut from the middle with steak taken from each side it ends up with a bone down the centre of the steak. As the bone from the centre is shaped like a T this steak has become known as the t bone steak.

What Two Steaks Are In A T Bone?

The two steaks that make up a t bone is the fillet steak and the sirloin steak. Many consider the sirloin steak and the fillet steak to be the two best, thus giving you an AMAZING steak cut.

However, if you live across the pond in the USA, you might refer to these as the filet mignon and the short loin.

Is T Bone Steak Good?

This tbone steak recipe is AMAZING. I never thought anything would beat air fryer ribeye steak, but OMG this is the best of the best.

But of course, tbone steak is not cheap and you will pay a premium for such an amazing steak in the air fryer.

Can You Cook T Bone Steak In Air Fryer?

Yes, t bone steak can be cooked in the air fryer, and you will LOVE IT! T bone is so easy to prep and then you can let the air fryer do the hard work.

One fear for many, is cooking steak in a pan and it spitting on you, or you overcooking it. Yet its much easier to air fry tbone.

Best Way To Cook T Bone Steak?

The best way to cook a tbone steak is in the air fryer. It creates a delicious grill like texture to the steak, its faster cooking than the grill or barbecue and tastes amazing.

You can also leave the tbone steak in the air fryer to cook whilst you sort out your sides.

How To Prepare T Bone Steak?

There is not much effort, when it comes to preparing t bone steak for the air fryer, and this also applies to pretty much every air fryer steak recipe.

The most important part is to make sure the steak is at room temperature, because it will help make tbones tender.

The next step is to plan your t bone steak seasoning. I like to keep it simple, because you want to taste the amazing flavours of the tbone, and don’t want the flavours from seasoning to take over from this. I recommend some light seasoning such as salt, pepper, and paprika.

Then once you have brought your tbone steak to room temperature and seasoned, all the prep is done, and you are ready for air frying.

T Bone Steak Air Fryer Ingredients

Steak – I recommend a medium t bone steak to cook in the air fryer. Ours that we got from the butchers was HUGE and only just fitted in the air fryer. It was 825g or 29oz. Of course, you can go much smaller than this!

Seasoning – Then for seasoning do keep it simple as you want to enjoy the natural flavour of the steak. We love cooking t bone steak with salt, pepper, sweet paprika and a little parsley. Though you can swap the sweet paprika for garlic instead.

Then for the kitchen gadgets that we have used in this tbone steak in air fryer recipe it has just been our Philips air fryer. We have this one and its wonderful for many types of air fryer recipes.

  • Cook. Load into the air fryer and air fry your steak for 18 minutes at 180c/360f.

How Long To Cook T Bone Steak In Air Fryer?

The recommended cooking time for t bone steak is JUST 18 minutes. Note that is for a large t bone steak in air fryer and you might want to adjust for smaller t bone.

When cooking an air fryer tbone steak (the same applies to every air fryer steak) is to make sure you turn the steak and that both sides are getting cooked.

For even better results aim for equal cook times on each side.

Therefore, if a steak takes 18 minutes, then do 9 minutes on each side.

For the t bone internal temp aim for 55c/130f as this will give you a medium rare.

How Do You Cook A Thick T Bone Steak In An Air Fryer?

Because we cooked a large t bone steak in the air fryer, ours would be considered as thick, so simply follow our t bone steak instructions above and below in the recipe card and you won’t go wrong.

If yours is not quite as thick as our tbone steaks, then reduce the cook time to 6 minutes on each side, do an internal temp and then you can see if your cook time is spot on or if it needs longer.

Ninja Foodi T Bone Steak

I have also cooked Ninja Foodi steak before and loved it and you can adapt this recipe for the Ninja Foodi too.

My only difference in the cooking would be making sure the tbone fits in the Ninja. But apart from that, the recipe is the same.

Notes

Turn. It’s important that you do an equal cook on each time. Otherwise your tbone wont be as tender.

Seasoning. Avoid over seasoning your steak otherwise you will lose the amazing natural flavour of the t bone.

Temp. Avoid cooking the steak at a higher temperature otherwise it will dry out and will need much longer to cook in the middle.
