Is D passing at Texas State? ›

Most colleges still award passing credit for a grade of D, and a college D usually denotes a numerical average of 60 to 69.

Repeating Courses

A student may repeat a course but cannot receive credit for the course more than once unless the course description in the catalog specifically provides that the course may be repeated for credit.

Basic Repeat Policies

You can only repeat a course one time to replace a grade. Grades in third attempts of a course will not be calculated into your GPA, but will be shown on your transcript. If you earned a grade of D+, D, D-, or F, you must take your repeat for a letter grade.

We also recognize that students from accredited non-public, out-of-state, or out-of-country schools may have transcripts that record letter grades or that indicate awarded credit for courses with grades lower than the Texas passing standard of 70.

The 3-Peat Rule was passed by the State of Texas to discourage students from repeating courses. Texas residents attempting the same course for a third time since Fall 2002 will be charged an additional $100 per credit hour for that course.

You must have at least 16 transferable credit hours with a cumulative GPA of 2.5 or higher, or 30 transferable credit hours and a cumulative GPA of 2.25 or higher, to meet the assured admission requirements for transfers.

After the Automatic “W” Drop/Withdrawal Deadline, an “F” or “W” will be assigned depending on whether the student is passing (“W”) or failing (“F”) the course at the time the drop/withdrawal action is officially completed. Grade-Point Average (GPA). Texas State utilizes the four-point system.

One B won't ruin your GPA if it's weighted. Weighted GPA takes into account on the difficulty of the classes you take.

Does retaking classes look bad on transcripts? ›

Retaking the classes online and earning a higher grade will look better than a C on your transcript. Taking extra classes, so long as you can handle the increased rigor, will also help your application by boosting your weighted and unweighted GPA.

When you repeat a course, the second attempt and all subsequent attempts are used in calculating your GPA. The first attempt still appears on your transcript, but it is not used in calculating GPA.

A grade of D or F does transfer for admission purposes but may not be accepted by the student's major department. Courses evaluated as non-transferable and vocational education (VOCED) are not computed.

At most schools, a D is the lowest passing grade. That means students who earn a D or higher receive credit for the course. However, some schools set special policies around D grades.

What is a passing grade? Many college grading systems consider a D, or 65 percent, to be the lowest passing grade. Note that different schools, programs, or classes may have different cutoff points for what they consider a passing grade.
